Powerful words coming from Barcelona today as they announce the appointment of their new manager Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino. Looks like Cesc will be staying around…
Josep Maria Bartomeu, FC Barcelona vice-president, on Cesc Fabregas’ future: “It doesn’t matter what any offer from Manchester United is – we’re not selling him. We’re counting on him. He’s not for sale.
“If there was a higher offer would we accept it? No. He’s a great player. It doesn’t bother us that Manchester United want him. We’re proud that a club like that wants one of our players.”
And because we’re a pleasant bunch here at The Mirror, here’s a handy stats guide to Barca’s influential Spaniard:

West Ham and Chelsea have missed out on one of their summer targets as Stefan Klessling, linked with both during the summer, has signed a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen.
The Hammers were the keener of the two clubs while Chelsea were pondering a move for the 29 year-old to provide competition up-front.
Klessling was the top scorer in the Bundesliga last season, knocking in 25 goals in 34 appearances.
Swansea shot-stopper Michel Vorm has been discussing his rumoured move to Manchester United this morning. David Moyes would like some top-class backup to David de Gea and has apparently kept one eye on Vorm since his days at Everton.
“We would obviously all like to play for Manchester United, but I am still young for a goalkeeper and I have many good years ahead of me,” the Dutchman said.
“It’s my ambition to ply my trade in English football for as long as possible.
“There have been many rumours and stories about me in the last few years, but I have never been in a position to turn down an offer and I love life at Swansea.”
Leicester City rejected an offer from Brentford for their highly rated centre-back Liam Moore last night.
The England youth international had spent a period on loan with the Bees last season but Nigel Pearson is keen to keep his squad together having made just the one signing so far this summer.
Crystal Palace have pulled two deals.
According to the Eagles’ co-chairman Steve Parish the club will now be looking into alternatives after cooling their interest in both Dan Gosling and Carlton Cole.
Parish said: “It’s very unlikely Dan and Carlton will be signing, we have decided to move on.
“We are now looking at alternative targets.”
Manchester City gaffer Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that their summer spending spree, which has seen them spend just shy of £100million already, may not be over.
Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo have all arrived at the Etihad Stadium in recent weeks.
“The club has spent money on important players, like Stevan and Negredo. But we must remind you that last year here there was [Mario] Balotelli and [Carlos] Tevez, so we had to replace two very good players with another two very good players,” the Chilean said.
“So, we have the whole month of July and some days of August to finish completely the squad. It’s not absolutely complete but it’s very near to being complete.”
Jamie Mackie has also completed his deal which sees him join Billy Davies at Nottingham Forest on a three-year deal.
“There are quality players and a top manager – I can’t wait to come to a team which is ambitious as well,” the £1.2million signing has said today.
Gary Hooper has passed his medical at Norwich City ahead of a £5million move to Carrow Road. This news comes after the Celtic striker turned down a switch to QPR.
‘Arry keeps on looking.
Paolo di Canio has today been asked about the future of Lee Cattermole at Sunderland. Linked with a host of clubs including Hull this summer, the Italian is still yet to make his mind up.
“He couldn’t come [to Hong Kong] because he was not fully fit, in the opinion of both myself and the fitness coach.
“He is training with the reserves and then when we get back to Sunderland, he will be ready.”
However, asked if the midfielder had a future with the club, the Italian replied: “We will see. It depends.”
Who is this speaking, do we think?
“I will stay. I think we need competition and we welcome the best players in this club. More competition is going to make me better anyway. All players want to play, not only centre forwards.”
That’s right. It’s Chelsea striker Demba Ba, previously thought to be out the door at Stamford Bridge.
Steven Davies has completed a move to Bloomfield Road for an undisclosed fee from Bristol City, signing two-year deal with one-year option.
Arsenal’s hunt for a striker to compliment Luis Suarez, should they manage to wrangle him away from Brendan Rodgers’ clutches, is looking up.
Athletic Mineiro have announced that they’ll play ball with the Gunners should they offer £22million for the Brazilian forward Bernard.
“The president [Alexandre Kalil] has already made very clear, if an offer of €25 million (£22m) arrives, he is going to sell and we will buy another player,” the club’s director, Eduardo Maluf, told Radio Globo.
“If this offer did not appear, Bernard will stay at Atletico. He is young and can leave at the end of the year.”
It looks as though Nottingham Forest are set to complete the signing of QPR frontman Jamie Mackie. If they continue at this rate, Billy Davies’ boys will surely be a good bet for promotion.
We’re delighted to confirm the signing of @NChadli after the player agreed personal terms and completed his medical.

If you’re to believe the press over in Brazil (and who doesn’t?) Chelsea have made a £8million bid for Botafogo’s highly-rated defender Doria.
Do we believe them folks?
AVB has had a lot to say this summer, not always about subjects which he’d like, but there’s still time for him to be getting some transfer business done at White Hart Lane. Here’s his thoughts on his latest strike target Roberto Soldado, after missing out on Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke:
“There is interest in the player, no matter what happened in the last couple of days.
“He is a quality player, he has done well at Valencia for the last few seasons.
“He has had a good education from the Real Madrid school and he is a player which we interested in adding.”
Down in the Championship Wigan Athletic, under the rule of Owen Coyle after Roberto Martinez’s departure, have completed their eighth summer signing.
It comes in the form of 25 year-old Honduras international defender Juan Carlos Garcia. Here’s what Coyle has to say on the club’s website today:
“Juan is a very talented player, a left-back, powerful and someone we’re very happy to be bringing to the squad.
More quotes from Brenden Rodgers today about his want-away striker Luis Suarez. If yesterday’s cry for loyalty was enough to rile the controversial Reds star then prepare for more sulking…
“Would it be a mistake for Luis to leave? 100%. The team was built around Luis last season,” Rodgers said.
Fresh off the press, here’s Hull City manager Steve Bruce’s views on the potential signing of Evian striker Yannick Sagbo.
The burly forward, he thinks, will have the same impact as Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke.
“You look at Benteke before he went to Aston Villa, he didn’t have a prolific goalscoring record but he had all the attributes to play in the Premier league.”

Morning transfer addicts!
Another busy day of action is in store today as we hurtle towards the new season. As usual, just to get you up and running, here’s a quick re-cap of what’s big in our offices this morning…
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, increasingly tired of the rumours surrounding his Welsh superstar, has told the press that the club are in contract talks with Gareth Bale. With Real Madrid circling over, waiting for the right moment to pounce, AVB is desperate to secure the£65millionrated man for at least another year.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that it was “a difficult decision” to let goalkeeper Pepe Reina leave on loan. He’ll be reunited with everybody’s favourite Spanish waiter look-a-like, ex-Reds boss Rafael Benitez at Napoli.
Both bosses, Rodgers and Villas-Boas, are also interested in Valencia hot-shot Roberto Saldado. The London club are believed to have the upper hand on this one though as Franco Baldini, the side’s new technical director, was pictured speaking with the player’s agent earlier this week. Liverpool hope, however, that Spurs’ reluctance to meet the asking price will enable them to sneak in and do business.
